There’s been a big update on art and music therapy under the NDIS

and it’s good news!

An independent review, led by Dr Stephen Duckett AM, has confirmed that art and music therapies can be effective and even life-changing for people with disability. The NDIA has agreed to adopt the recommendations, which means more certainty for participants and providers.

What’s Changing?

  • Therapies stay in the NDIS: You can keep accessing art and music therapy where it provides beneficial outcomes.

  • Qualified therapists: Supports will need to be delivered by registered professionals.

  • New pricing: From 24 November 2025, the hourly rate will be set at $156.16, the same as counselling.

  • Clearer rules: A stronger line between therapy and recreational art/music, with funding focused on supports that enable participation (not the cost of activities themselves).

What This Means for You

For now, nothing changes! You can keep accessing the supports in your plan at current rates.

From late 2025, new pricing will apply, and by 2026 the NDIS Evidence Advisory Committee will guide future decisions with a strong evidence base.

💡 Most importantly: participants can feel reassured that art and music therapy remain recognised and valued supports within the NDIS.
