*Lexi has completed her first year of nursing at the University of Newcastle.*

Nursing and Support work are so alike yet so different. They both require people who are caring, passionate and friendly.

During my time in nursing, I learnt that often people don’t care to learn your name, they just care if someone does what they need them to do. Support work is not at all like that. Clients care if you turn up, they know your name and make an effort to remember it. As much as I love nursing and everything I have learnt, I am so excited to be a part of the Hillebrand Shaw and Co team and keen to expand my knowledge further about the NDIS and supporting people living with disabilities.

I may only be new to the support work side of caring for people, but I no longer feel

like just a body that turns up. I now feel important, valued, and as though I really can make a difference in people's lives.

Every day, I wake up and look forward to going to work (I don’t call it work). Being a Support Worker is a privilege, and some days are harder than others, and challenges may seem impossible, but with the right support and knowledge, everything in this role is possible.

Since working in the industry, I have fallen in love with my job again and find myself

always wanting to work (no one wants to work). I am so very lucky to call myself a

support worker with HS&C.
